eswatini, Africa - Winter 2020
eSwatini (formerly Swaziland) has the highest prevalence of HIV in the world (27.3% of adult population, 210,000 people), and as a result, many of the households in the rural areas are parentless households. These are kids raising kids. Adventure Soccer began serving these communities with soccer camps. It served to draw these kids in and give Adventure Soccer a platform to share the Good News of Jesus. But there were legitimate needs that still had to be met. So over the years, they have set up a system designed to support these communities, creating opportunity to demonstrate the love of Christ in order to share the Gospel of Christ.
Centered around a local church and pastor supported by Adventure Soccer, they helped establish, preschools, feeding centers for kids, clean water collection for drinking, farming, sewing, and other support. All of these efforts serve to draw the kids in, but the end goal is to connect them to that church and the mid-week bible club.
In one such community we served this year, their preschool is maxed out. They have a thriving farm, excess water to offer to others and the space and resources to serve hundreds of kids a meal each day after school. Many of those kids from the community come back for mid-week kids’ bible club and church on Sunday.
