Aguascalientes, Mexico - Winter 2022

The goal for this trip was to love and encourage Jeff and Sheny walker and to serve them in whatever ways they wanted to help advance the long term mission in Aguascalientes, MX.

 Jeff and Sheny Walker have been in Mexico for 40 years. Nearly all of that in Aguascalientes. It’s a city larger than Seattle. Sometimes called the Detroit of Mexico due to the car manufacturing there, esp Nissan. It’s also a difficult place to minister due to the strong influence of the Catholic Church. It often opposes Jeff and Sheny’s, and other evangelical work. The Walkers have a ministry of evangelism (often in the streets with children and adults), Children’s club (many don’t have a father in their home), church planting (they’ve planted two churches), and camping (they built, operate and live at Campamento Picacho outside of town). They’ve also run a Bible school and a discipleship program.

 While there our team participated in Kids Club (Club Dorcas) with about 20+ kids present that day. The kids love Jeff and Sheny. We loved playing games, singing and being with them. We also attended one of the churches Jeff and Sheny planted. Dave Hansen and Susan Patton shared their testimonies with Debby Graham translating. Jeff preached from Nehemiah 4.  Getting to know the people at a potluck meal after was a real highlight.  

 Monday thru Friday typical days for us: 7:30-9:30AM work on camp facility. Then breakfast. Then 10 to 2:30PM more work. Lunch. Then break till 5:30pm. Then to town for street evangelism. We handed out tracts (which people were very cordial to receive). Managed to have some gospel conversations. When we could find clusters of kids (usually with adults) Sheny shared the Wordless Book, and Jeff did a gospel story from the Bible while painting an illustration. They will follow up later with families. We invited kids, with parent permission to the day camp Saturday. Then back to camp for lite dinner and bed.

 Projects we worked on: Fixed electrical problems, landscape maintenance, cleaned out and painted the inside and outside of their 40 by 80 dining hall building (only one scorpion found). We cleaned and painted the swimming pool, cleared the sport court, prepped the games and food for the upcoming Saturday camp. Kids camp had about 25-30 VERY enthusiastic kids, including some new kids who’d never come before. There were games, Bible story, singing, craft, zip line, water balloon wars, swimming in the pool and of course food.  

 We came back grateful that we could encourage the Walkers (some of our best times around a shared meal) and help them advance their long term ministry by serving them in Christ’s name. Just imagine the hundreds and thousands of lives the Lord has used them to touch over the course of their 40 year ministry! Keep praying for the Walkers.
