Karen Erickson

I’m Karen Erickson and I have been serving overseas for almost 13 years in international schools. God first called me overseas after a house building trip to Mexico with SCC. One morning, a global worker from Papua New Guinea gave a devotion from John 21 where Jesus asks Peter if Peter loves Him and to feed His lambs. I felt God was illuminating the call to serve overseas.

Once home I searched various organizations and quickly realized the harvest field needed teachers. Teaching was a natural fit as I had been teaching in US public schools for almost 10 years.

In order for missionary parents to serve effectively, they need a place for their children to be schooled while working in the harvest field to which God has called them. By God’s leadership, I began teaching at International Academy of St. Petersburg, Russia. Through the years I moved from teacher to principal of the K-12 school and saw the Lord bring many students from business families to come to know the Lord.

Now God has directed me to the field of Amman, Jordan at Whitman Academy where I am the curriculum coordinator and newly appointed interim elementary principal. I see my calling as twofold:

1. To be a light to children of global workers through the venue of Christian education and teaching a biblical worldview in the classroom.

2. To encourage and build up the teachers He has called to serve in the classroom, helping to equip them and grow them in their profession as well as in their walk with Christ.
